Busy as usual, Celia?!

I've been busy too - dabbing my kids with calamine lotion - we've got the chicken pox in our house!
Oh for a literary festival in Sweden...!

Dear Celia Rees
I loved your books they where all so inspiring and moving. I especially loved Witch Child and sorceress, they were incredible. I particularly grew close to Mary as I could easily relate to her. I hope this doesn’t sound too forward but I heard that witch child might be made into a film, and I’m sure you get asked this all the time but if it is produced as a film have you chosen and actress who would play Mary. (I feel really rude and big headed saying this but) if you haven’t and Witch Child is produced would you ever consider having an undiscovered, raw talent like myself play Mary. (At the moment I must sound so sad and desperate and I apologise for that.) I would never normally be so arrogant or rude but I feel so strongly about the way you portrayed Mary in the book (how amazingly strong she always was and her utter determination in life to help others and succeed even when the world had turned against her). It is not like me at all to feel so strongly about one person but when I read the book I felt all the emotions Mary was feeling, and I strongly believe that if Witch Child were a film, any audience should feel the rollercoaster ride of emotions I felt when reading the book and only someone (like me) who has read and felt these emotions could properly portray them (obviously the fantastic emotions where all because of you incredible writing skill). I am very sorry for writing to you like this but I feared because I am unable to afford an agent my life long ambition and dream of playing Mary would slip away from me and I would be unable to stop it. Thank you for giving up your precious time to read my very odd letter.
Thank you

Hi Hannah,

Sorry it has taken a while to get back to you. Thanks for your lovely, long post and for your interest and enthusiasm about Witch Child. I agree, it would be a good part for any young actress, but I'm afraid there are no plans at the moment to make Witch Child into a film - I only wish there were! A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that whether a book is made into a film or not has something to do with the author. It doesn't, I'm afraid. A film company has to want to make the book into a film. If it ever gets picked up, I'll let you know.
