Celia's diary is now active

Hi, this is Rhiannon here. I've been helping Celia put her website together and the very newest part is this weblog. As Celia's web designer I'm able to log in to post messages but most of the content will be written by Celia herself.

If you'd like to comment on a post or ask a question, please feel free. You don't need a Blogger account to comment.

I hope you enjoy the updated website!

Hi Ms. Rees. I have a request to ask of you. I am a current junior in high school in South Carolina, and, in the specific school I attend, we are required to do a large project known as a "senior thesis". The possibilities are endless, but my true passion is musical theater, and so I wanted to write a musical theater piece. And with your permission, I would like to base the plot and the characters on those in your novel Pirates!. My goal is to eventually publish it and stage it as a musical work. If I need to get permission from your publisher or some other source or if you have any other questions, please let me know. Thank you so much for your time!

Hi,
I'm sure many people will say this too, but I really love your work.
Especially Witch Child, it's given me a keen interest in the 16th Century witch trials. It was gripping, exciting and thoroughly believable. I wish I could read it for the first time again!
What I love most is your characters (my current faveourites are Mary Newbury and Clio Dalton). Though all of them seem real enough to step off the pages. I was wondering, do you have any advice for making believable characters?
Thank you and good luck with your current project,
Ele.

Hi Emma,
Names are very important in any book. You have to choose names appropriate to the times and social circumstances of the characters. With Witch Child I chose names appropriate to the Puritans, who tended to chose Biblical names form the New and old testament. I chose Mary because it is universal to all the Christian religions.

Hi Bailey,
This sounds like an interesting project. As long as the production is for private performance and not likely to be published, you can go ahead and do it. If you intend to put on public performances, in a public theatre for example, and charge admission, or if you want to publish the script, you would need permission from the publisher.

Hi Ele,

Thanks for taking the time to write and tell me how much you like my books. I’m pleased to see that you have read The Wish House, as well as Witch Child. Very different books and characters, it is nice to know that both work for you. I think the important thing to do when creating characters is to think of them as real people and think to yourself, how do we get to know real people? We describe what makes them different and we describe their behaviour, so when you are writing about a character, find small things about them that reveal what they are like and then establish their character through their behaviour.

Hi Kat,
I’m flattered that you have chosen me for your research project. I hope you can find plenty of material about me and my books here on my web site. If there is anything else you want to know, send me some questions at celia@celiarees.com and I’ll be happy to answer them.

I have read most popular books and liked "Pirates" the most. I know you are in the middle of another book but many people are wanting a sequel.if you are ever ready to write that book, which you definitely should,I would love it.I also have many ideas for the book, if you would like to hear them,.And if you are not going to make that book, I would like to know which one of your books you would recommend to me.THANK YOU :)
